Day 2 in Peru (Miraflores, Lima)

This morning David and I started off the day with a jog! We need to keep up our fitness level or else Mama Chavez will make us soooooo big!! She is the BEST cook!!!

Today we went with Claudia and Mama Chavez to get notarized photocopies of our passports. The copies are now as good as the real thing, so we don't risk getting ours stolen.

Walking through Surco is funny - Mama Chavez and Claudia pointed out how one bus drivers jaw dropped and eyes bulged as he looked at Carol. Claudia said he planned his whole life with her in an instant lol. People here can be forward in their stares but not nearly as flirty as in Cuba! Some people stare at us because of our eye and skin colour... The Peru that we have seen must be about 97% Peruvians! Very few people of any other race are here. It's only our second day here but already we look at other foreigners and think, what are you doing here?

Afterwards Claudia took us to Miraflores for the first time - the touristy section of Lima. We went to the coast and saw the ocean for the first time at Larco Mar.

Dave & Carol went to the Museo Oro del Peru which is the Gold Museum of Peru. We saw ancient artifacts dating thousands of years before the Incas.

David and I took the bus home after the museum - our first time riding the bus without any help - we did just fine (other than our elevated heart rates at the insanity of drivers here!)

We stopped and picked up a couple treats from the grocery store. Would you like to have a hat like that and be a grocery clerk?

Culture shock & TMI: All toilet paper goes in the wastebasket here, never in the toilet!

Watching a movie now - more later.
